Accountability to Peoples CSO Development Effectiveness in the Post-2015 Agenda

Saturday 28th March, 11:30-14:00
World Social Forum-Tunis | CPDE Tent

The year 2015 will see a shift in the global development landscape, as the Millenium Development Goals come to a close come September. Global partnership, like development institutions and actors, must demonstrate accountability and transparency to the people, in order to achieve its goals and responsibilities. Accountability to peoples requires all development actors – governments, civil society, businesses and the private sector, among others, to commit to accountability which respects the integral role of the people in developing their development path. These partnerships should realize and protect people's demands and democratic rights, as well as their aspiration for just governance and solidarity. CSOs, as development actors in their own right must ensure that their own accountability is to the people. CSOs are expected to empower all people, with particular focus on the poor and the marginalized, to be part of free, prior and informed decision-making in all stages of development processes, be it the national, regional and global levels. Accountability to people requires CSOs and all institutions to be reponsive to the needs and priorities of the people, and ensures that they meet their obligations ro the communities and the people.
